Toothachey

Provenance

Public business facts about businesses. Nothing else, ever.

Selling data anywhere near healthcare makes careful buyers nervous, and it should. Here is exactly what Toothachey touches and what it refuses to, written plainly enough to forward to your compliance person.

What we use

Records a member of the public can open.

State dental board records

Licence issuance and licensee records, published by the boards themselves as a matter of public safety.

Business filings

Secretary of State entity registrations, name changes, and managing-member records.

Broker and marketplace listings

Practices publicly offered for sale, as published by the broker.

The practice's own website

Team pages, careers pages, and the public markup of the site, which is how a tech change is detected.

Job boards and career pages

Roles a practice has chosen to advertise publicly.

Public review counts and ratings

The aggregate numbers only, tracked over time. We store the count and the rating, not the reviews and not the reviewers.

Where a licensed data provider carries an access relationship with a source, we use the provider rather than fetching the page ourselves. The provider holds the relationship, the output is normalized, and the cost is recorded per run.

What we refuse

The list that keeps this product out of trouble.

These are build constraints, not preferences. They are not negotiable for a cost saving or for a customer request.

  • ×No patient information

Not names, not appointments, not procedures, not counts, not anything derived from any of it. Toothachey never touches a system that holds it, which is what keeps the product outside health privacy scope entirely.

  • ×No consumer personal data

No home addresses, no personal mobile numbers, no household records. Every contact detail we would ever hold is a business detail at a business.

  • ×Nothing behind a login or a paywall

If reading it required an account, a subscription, or accepting terms, it is out of scope. Public means public.

  • ×No inferred events

No modeled propensity, no 'likely to sell', no scoring a practice on how retirement-aged its owner looks. Every row is a thing that demonstrably happened.

  • ×No scraping against a site's terms

We respect robots directives and terms on anything we touch directly, and prefer a licensed endpoint whenever one exists.

  • ×No selling of our subscriber list

Who subscribes, and to what territory, is not a product. It is never sold, rented, or disclosed.

Corrections

A practice that wants out.

Toothachey reports public facts about businesses, and a business cannot generally suppress a public record. We can still be reasonable about it.

If you are a practice and a row about you is wrong, write to corrections@toothachey.com with the row and what is inaccurate. We check it against the source. If the source does not support the row, we mark it unverified, correct it in the next file, and it stops circulating. If the source does support it, we will tell you which record it came from so you can go and correct it there.
